How do I receive health insurance?

 

All residents in the Province of Ontario must obtain a health card to show that they are entitled to medical care provided by the Ontario Health and Insurance Plan (OHIP).  In order to be eligible, newcomers must be a Canadian Citizen of have immigration status, have your permanent and resident home in Ontario, and be physically present in the province 153 days in any 12 month period.

 

How do I obtain a Health Card?

 

Obtaining a Health Card can be done by visiting an OHIP office, completing a registration form, and by providing the necessary documents.  Please visit the Ministry of Long-term Care for more information.

I need health insurance right away.  What do I do?

 

The Interim Federal Health Program provides health coverage for individuals who are not yet covered by OHIP.

 

Now that I have health coverage, how do I find a doctor? 

 

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario can help you find either a physician, a family doctor, or a specialist.
